Many of us have seen the commercial for back to school supplies with the father dancing down the aisle of the store to the song “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and the children with their heads down, shuffling their feet, with glum looks on their faces. Just as many of us share the father’s joy at the fact that the children are soon headed back to school.
Don’t get me wrong, I love summer and I love spending time with my children but it’s nice to have a break from that in the fall. It’s nice to have time to run errands and shop without young voices asking, “Are we there yet?” or, “buy this for me”. The opportunity to take simply pause for moment just to clear your head can be like pure nirvana. I have often said that my summer vacation truly starts when the kids go back to school!
Thank goodness for teachers and school staff for taking over for just a little while. Wish them luck and be sure to let them know how much you appreciate them.
