“The new science of psychoacoustics— the study of the effect of music and sound on the human nervous system— shows that can relieve pain, help stroke patients, and benefit other conditions.” — Dr. Andrew Weil
Sound therapy has ancient roots and has been practiced by different cultures from around the world in different forms for thousands of years. Sound therapy is known for healing and balancing the mind and body through drumming, chanting, gongs, singing bowls, and more.
Sound therapy is a sensory practice that utilizes auditory and vibratory inputs that incorporate music and sound to affect psychological and physiological states. Sonic therapy is known to promote relaxation and enhance well-being.
How do sound frequencies impact our health?
Brainwave Entrainment: Sound therapy can help synchronize the brain’s electrical activity to different frequencies in order to induce different states of consciousness. For example alpha waves help us to relax and gamma waves help heighten focus and cognition.
Binaural Beats: Different frequencies are played in each ear so that it creates the perception of a third frequency in the brain. This technique is said to lower stress and anxiety, enhance creativity, and improved concentration.
Frequency Specific Effects: Distinct frequencies have different impact on the body and brain. Lower frequencies like delta and theta help with relaxation and meditation and higher frequencies like beta and gamma enhance problem-solving abilities and alertness.
Neuroplasticity: The brain’s ability to learn and form neural connections may be improved by stimulating it through sound to improve cognitive flexibility, learning, and memory retention.
Rhythm is a means of organizing sound into specific energy formulas to harmonize the mind and body. Chanting, rhythmic breathing and drumming form an ancient technology for directly synchronizing the mind/body complex, creating conditions for psychological and physical healing.” — Layne Redmond
